What do 'Private' and 'Public' mean in Document access when sharing?

Last updated on Feb 19, 2026

Short Answer: Private = “Only team members can view this security review.” Public = “Anyone with the link can view. No login required.”

PreRequisites

  1. Click Share to open the Share security review modal.

Steps

  1. Click Share to open the Share security review modal.
The modal shows Document access with Private and Public options.

  2. Read the description under each option and select Private or Public as needed.
The radio selection updates and the meaning of each option is visible.

  3. Click Save to apply, or Copy link to copy the current shareable URL.

  4. If you set Public, test the link in a private/incognito window to confirm that no sign-in is required.

Troubleshooting

  1. People still can’t view after sharing a “Public” link
LikelyCause: You didn’t click Save after switching to Public.
Action: Reopen Share, ensure Public is selected, click Save, then use Copy link again.

Note:

  • Private: Only team members can view this security review.

  • Public: Anyone with the link can view. No login required.
