How do I leave a comment on a PR or issue?

Last updated on Jan 08, 2026

Short Answer: Open the Issue Level View, type your feedback in the comment area or inline comment box, then submit using the issue’s post action.

PreRequisites

  1. Signed in

  2. Commenting permission for the repository

Steps

  1. Open the PR/issue to get to the Issue Level View.
Issue Level View and comment areas are visible.

  2. Locate the comment box (inline comment or bottom discussion area) and type your feedback.
    Your comment text is entered.

  3. Click the visible action to post the comment (label varies by UI; look for “Comment”, “Save”, or the primary action button).
Your comment is posted and visible in the discussion.

  4. If you added an inline comment, ensure you saved or committed the inline thread if the UI requires an extra step.
Inline comment thread is visible in the code area.

Troubleshooting

  1. Comment doesn’t appear after posting.
LikelyCause: Temporary network issue or permission restriction.
Action: Refresh the page, ensure you’re signed in, and confirm you have permission to post comments.

  2. Inline comment box is not available.
LikelyCause: The file view or line number may not support inline comments in this view.
Action: Use the bottom discussion comment box or open the full diff view if available.

Note: Inline vs. discussion comments behave differently; check both places if you don’t see your posted feedback.
