How do I choose a branch or pull request to review?

Last updated on Jan 08, 2026

Short Answer: On “Choose what you want to review” pick the tab “Review pull request” or “Review branch / files”, then select “GitHub account”, “Repository”, and “Branch”, and click “Continue.”

PreRequisites

  1. Connected GitHub account

  2. At least one repository accessible from that account

Steps

  1. Open the “Choose what you want to review” page.
Heading “Choose what you want to review” and the two tabs are visible.

  2. Click the tab you want: “Review pull request” or “Review branch / files.”
    Selected tab is highlighted.

  3. Open “GitHub account” and choose the account (e.g., personal-account).
    Account field is populated.

  4. Open “Repository” and pick the repository (e.g., personal-website).
    Repository field is populated.

  5. Open “Branch” and select the branch you want to review (e.g., develop).
    Branch field is populated.

  6. Click the blue “Continue” button.
Proceed to the “Select files to review” screen.

Troubleshooting

  1. Branch list is empty or missing the expected branch.
LikelyCause: The selected account/repository doesn’t have that branch or you lack permissions.
Action: Confirm the “GitHub account” and “Repository” selection, or switch to “Review pull request” if reviewing a PR.

Note: Use “Review branch / files” when you want to pick files manually; use “Review pull request” to select an open PR.
