How do I open the documentation or draft referenced in a notification?

Last updated on Oct 14, 2025

Short Answer:
In Notifications, click the right-hand action link (e.g., View draft, View documentation) to open the referenced item.

Prerequisites

  1. Be signed in

  2. Have permission to access the referenced document if it’s private

Steps

  1. Open the Notifications page from the bell icon.

  2. Find the relevant notification (e.g., Documentation generated, Documentation published).

  3. Click the action link on the right (e.g., View draft, View documentation).

  4. If you see a privacy message (e.g., “Only authorized users can access”), request access from the owner listed in the notification.

Troubleshooting

  1. “View documentation” shows an access error

    • LikelyCause: The document is private or your repo access is limited.

    • Action: Request access from the document owner shown in the notification, or verify your repository permissions.

  2. Clicking the action link does nothing

    • LikelyCause: Temporary network issue or unreachable destination.

    • Action: Reload Notifications and try again; if it persists, try later or use another browser.

Note: Notifications include the repository or file name and a right-hand action link to open the item directly.
